Lazair.com Lazair ultralight 2010-01-16T05:57:22-05:00 https://www.lazair.com/forum/feed.php?f=3&t=1141 2010-01-16T05:57:22-05:00 https://www.lazair.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1141&p=8173#p8173 <![CDATA[MK111 found in Australia]]> Also I can see how the F2 and F3 get stressed and crack, when having to remove one of them in order to get the other out of the T5 , the P4 with F3 attached has to be forced into the T5 (if not filed to fit) and then you are unable to aliegn the F2 with F3.
The fitting is so tight it is impossible to turn the F2-3 to aliegn and then you are forced to hammer the P4 out with the F2 attached, this bends the F2-3 which then needs to be straightened by mallet, you will now have a stressed F2-3 at the rivet line which will eventually crack if the fittment of T5 is not snug and a little side movement on the 35 bolt is evident.
So I need 4 new P4 plugs and 2 each F2-3 as I think I'll replace all of them as I think that the fittment needed too much metal removed from the P4s and the stress from the original fitment/ removal has caused too much fatigue already and warrants a replacement as the removal will no doubt cause more of the same issue in the deforming of the P4 and stress on the F2-3 with a bit more persuasion with the mallet to get the little buggers out again, I will also replace the T5's at the same time. I would like the P4s to be about 1-inch long so I can put new rivets in further in the end of the T5.

I would feel much better if this was done.

Explain a little more about this. I'm not clear exactly where you are talking about.

George

Also I am not happy with the 'Ends' of one the aileron I have had to file a lot of material off the cap in order to get them to fit and one is a little deformed after a little persuasion, is there new or better tube ends available I was thinking of getting some made that are a little longer than the original ?

In my D-cells the glue is perpendicular to the D-cell and is 'srcacthed' where the glue touches the inside skin to allow a better adhesion ?

I'm like you, in that since you can't identify the actual Tedlar spec, it's not something I'd do, but then again, there are guys who will put simple box tape on their plane (not something I'd ever even consider let alone ever do).

I can get you the foam and DBL sided tapes. I just need to get into the office tomorrow and get the info together.

Lets get together off line for the reinforcement parts you need.

Are there a few alloy brackets that strenghten the root rib8 and r3 ? I would like to source those parts and the nose cone backing plates if possible and a few hundred avax rivets as a back up.

( I found no. 30 'rivet' drill bits double ended at $ 6.50 per pair ,thats $1.60 per drill or $33.00{35.00 US $} per 10pk thats 20 drill tips on 10 sharfts)

also the pic attached there is a roll of tedlar tape but it was sourced from green house builders supply, I am not sure of the brand do you recognise the writing/roll ? I will not use this as I can't be sure of its origin.

manythanks wayne

I did get your e-mail, but since then our company server must be down (can't access it from home), so I'll try and respond tomorrow when I get in the office.

I have opened an area in the r3, r4 and the ribs are intact glue is till bonding the ribs to the cell skin. The glue runs the leght of the cell, not on each rib as per pic you posted. there is no visible signs of decay or debris in the cells they are clean and shining. I can feel every rib is in place on both wings so I think I will not reglue as suggested, as the cells are in a superior condition.

I have put a few emails out for tape/double sided/ foam,(some spare tedlar 20ft just in case I mess up a peice) so I guess I should ask who can put together a shipment of tapes/ foamtapes, d-cell foam peices/alloy strenghthening modifications, and about 1000 avax rivets and ship them to me ?

How fortunate to have Ozzie in your area. With you Ozzie and Tony that's a mini-Lazair squadron. It would be very beneficial to have Ozzie's help as he is already familiar with construction and all the mods you need to make on your plane. Definitely get with George as he can help you with a number items.
