Replacement engine possibility

Not that I am really considering it but I was just thinking of the possibility of having an engine broken beyond repair.

I thought that engine would be a possible candidate : ... LXZRE9&P=0

I know it is an RC engine but the power and HP seems right.
Downside would be the ignition battery requirement but that could be easily addressed. However, extra steps would have to be taken to ensure redundancy. Also, there is no pull starter on those things so, something would have to be done on that.

But I don't know if I would be really confortable running rc engine on our aircraft.

Just wnated your opinion on this because for the price, it may very well be worth investigating.

I even found a 4 stroke. ... d=EVOE7260 ... D=EVOE7260
If this thing is available and pretty reliable that would be awesome to have a 4 stroke powered lazair.

Price is quite expensive tough and you still get problems mentionned above.

Wonder what kind of look it would give to have a twin 7cyl radial powered lazair tough. :rolleyes:

Ok I got a bit carried away, after a close look, that last one looks a bit weird and no manual or complete specs available (it's more a rc 4 stroke converted to gas than anything, running gas/oil mix on 4 cycle).

I guess the more reasonable choice would be a solo. Is there anybody here flying those ?

Like I said, my rotaxes are good for now, I was just thinking about option for the future. :unsure:

Well, if Dale's test turns out to work, I would really consider going with that electric setup.
I guess we could real good reliability with this setup

Also, it would be a real head turner to have a twin engined ELECTRIC ultralight.

It's already pretty cool to have one of the very few twin engine ultralights. But to have new Lazair airframe with twin electric motors would not only be very cool it would be very 21st century. The design just does not date, it could have been designed yesterday.

Yes i paid for my air tickets last week. leave here on the 21st july and flying into Chicago. I may head over to "Skydive Chicago" for a day as they start their 'summerfest' boogie on the 23rd. so it will be a good opertunity to pick up some gear i need to replace. i am still planning to arrive sometime on the Sunday at Oshkosh. Chappy is also planning to be there. As the event gets closer we will have to work out a time and place to meet up. Hope Dale makes it as well with his electric lazair.
