Howdy All,
I just got off of the phone with the Wildfire dealer in Winnipeg. (Yes, we are still in the midst of a snow storm). He said that the 185 engines on the Wildfire Mark 3 pumps are not the same as the older 185 engines from Rotax. He asked me to bring in my pistons, etc so we can check the size of teh rings and seals but he isn't confident they are all interchangeable. One certain difference is port size.

He's also familiar with the Lazair, having build one or restored one several years ago.

Anyway, I'm going to go in on Friday at lunch, they are just down the road from where I work.

Here's hoping that Tyler is safe on the road or safely at his destination.

Check a skidoo dealer too. Wildfire guy might be reffering to the 2 mm rings.
Ports ? huh ? some one pulling your leg ?


What exactly do you needs? pistons or rings or have you checked?

Crank bearings would be a good idea to change them and seals.


Run em 30 to 40/ 1 max ideal 35 to 1 -- Some will tell you 50 or 100 to 1 but that just not a proven fact.

need rings for sure, they were stuck. the cases are full of oil and the seals look dry. Think I'll stop there....if it ain't broke:don't fix it..

are the 62mm rings used in the 377 the same as the 185 rings???

Jb88ci,
Find a SkiDoo dealer. the smaller ones are pretty friendly. Have the m look and decide what it needs. If your Rings were stuck, was that from rust? Or carbon?
Where were they stuck to piston ir cylinder wall?


About rings from a differnet engine? No idea. Don;t be cheap get the right parts.

Too many times I seen guys do dumb things and cost them lots of time and labor to repair and a forced landing.

Do it right and unless you are experienced in small engines, leave it to the pros.

Rotax engines are simple, but you can still put in a bearing wrong to only find out after 2 hours operation that your crank now needs to be replaced.

I got my pistons and rings from the guys at Rotec Research in B.C. They have some 185 parts in stock.
