Awhile back I sent my engines off to be rebuilt, but it looks like I won't see them for quite some time. So, in the meantime, I bought two, used replacement Rotax 185s. They appear to be in good shape but they were not mounted to the nacelles using the aluminum box and Lord mounts, as mine were. My original engines each had four, 1/4" threaded brass rods screwed into the starter shroud holes in the engine casing. The "new" engines have much smaller starter shroud holes. I'm considering drilling them out, threading them and screwing in either threaded steel rods or plain rods threaded on the ends which will mate them to the nacelles as the old engines were. Do you see any problems with this approach? Has anyone else had this problem? Did UltraFlight have more than one mounting method for the Rotax 185?
