Hello Wayne,

Shannon is absolutely right. If you'll pay attention to the details, listen to sound advice and do quality craftsmanship you will have a plane truely worthy of the find you made.

Also, I second Shannon's recomendation of NOT using the spinner backing plates. Toss them in the trash and get new ones made. Look at this pic and you can see the spinner backing plate that I had made. They are slightly thicker and have proven effective.

And another pic...you can see the backing plate in the left of the pic.

Here are the much improved plug caps Shannon spoke about. Mine happen to be an orange color, but they come in black too. Notice how I safety wire them down too. This was suggested to me by Shannon as well. He's one you'll want to listen to.

And here are the "Velocity Stacks" I make if you don't have any in your parts.

Hey guys, i told Wayne that this was the place to be. glad to see the help he is getting.
Series 111, i knew there were several around and have been quietly following leads and looking under every rock to try and find them. now this guy pops up with one only a couple of hours away. figures!!
Before you go to much futher i suggest you contact the RAAus and see just what has to be done to get this on the register. And start getting yourself rated. i'll email you about this when i am back in Sydney next week.

Hay no worries mate,
had an opportunity to do this in 2003, howvery maybe it was just not my time. But now this is my only opportunity to get into the air as I now have two boys under 3yrs. So that means I can only afford 1 hobby and thats the Mk111. and yeh, the velocity stacks are there buggers to get on though ! I have made the aileron control units ( 301?) about to be attached to the r3. I have drilled out 10 rivets lost the tops of two knukles pulling the rivots through. The foam ribs are all in position It feels as though some have lost adhesion to the under (flat) side of the Dcell. I have emailed goerge to see if he has any 2.5 in tedlar tape left or foam/doulbe sided tape if not maybe he steer me in the right direction ? I know exactley what you mean with saw horses and padding, a plastic ruler/ square is a good idea too. and don't let the boys near any sharp, blunt, heavy tools either as they like to try to help with some new scratches and dents ! anyway thanks for tips I do not intend skip any processes, have a good weekend.
wayne.

Hi Wayne,

How fortunate to have Ozzie in your area. With you Ozzie and Tony that's a mini-Lazair squadron. It would be very beneficial to have Ozzie's help as he is already familiar with construction and all the mods you need to make on your plane. Definitely get with George as he can help you with a number items.

Ok that sound Advice,
I need a cople of more saddles, my shed is not that big, but adiquate. I have assembled the inboard controls that attach to r3, is there a modification to strenghten the rib ? and if I am going to take the the whole skin off ,is it ok to undo the entire top surface at once ? and what are the spare blue ribs that I have with alloy covers (same as internal d-cell foam but with alloy case simmilar to the r8 root end)? where do they go? I have put a few emails out for tape/double sided/ foam,(some spare tedlar 20ft just in case I mess up a peice) so I guess I should ask who can put together a shipment of tapes/ foamtapes, d-cell foam peices/alloy strenghthening modifications, and about 1000 avax rivets and ship them to me ?
wayne.

Re opening the wing and reglueing the ribs. I have opened an area in the r3, r4 and the ribs are intact glue is till bonding the ribs to the cell skin. The glue runs the leght of the cell, not on each rib as per pic you posted. there is no visible signs of decay or debris in the cells they are clean and shining. I can feel every rib is in place on both wings so I think I will not reglue as suggested, as the cells are in a superior condition.

Wayne,

I did get your e-mail, but since then our company server must be down (can't access it from home), so I'll try and respond tomorrow when I get in the office.
